Hmm will possibly/probably post a more detialed rant/review at a later date. I know my opinion differs greatly from most of what I've seen, and yet myself and the 2 people I saw it with all came out feeling the same...

Currently suffice to say I'm not happy. And I'm not yet convinced - damn the lack of ways to evaluate these things! :) - that I wouldn't have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the series...

I don't even think it's a case of walking in with huge expectation from everything i'd heard. It's not that it's not a good movie, just...yeah.

Much more goes into spoiler territory. And I can't be bothered getting into a fullblown rant about it.

Oh, okay.......you're suggesting I should go see the movie without having watched the series? I've not seen anything but the first episode of the Firefly series - enough to remember the whole "coyboys in space"-atmosphere thang - but thought in order to understand the movie better I might catch up on the series before seeing it. Not a good idea then, according to you?

FWIW I think it works both ways. I've now seen Serenity four times in the past six weeks (two times were pre-screenings) and while I couldn't possibly disagree more with [livejournal.com profile] lirion - i.e. I find the film utterly satisfying and joy-inducing on all levels - each time I'm acquiring a little more detachment and am coming to the conclusion that people who never so much as heard of Firefly could enjoy the film as a standalone story.

I think that it works very well as a stand alone film, not so well as a worthy successor to the series. And I think I would ahve enjoyed it more if I didn't have some expectations builtup from the series. I liked the film, i didn't like it as a 'Firefly' film if that makes sense....

Really? I thought it stood well as both - can I ask why it didn't work for you?

Am writing up a separate psot about it currently.

A lot of it was little things that jarred and a couple of big things.

I liked the film - only now just watching the series

I'm curious as to your reasonings?

But i think it worked fairly well advertising the series
